The American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC) presented The Art of Music Preparation on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, hosted by Local 47.

Part of a new monthly series held on the first Wednesday evening of each month featuring a variety of topics of interest to arrangers and composers, the March 2 event included veteran music copyists Liz Finch, Ross deRoche and Kim Richmond, with a demonstration by Jim Ciancaglini, owner of Valle Music.

The evening began with an interesting hands-on demonstration by Jim Ciancaglini, which included the proper way to bind music and the importance of selecting the best paper size, color and weight for optimal performance by musicians. Next was an exciting exchange of music preparation topics with the expert panel, including plenty of audience interaction.

Questions, answers, information, fun stories and deadline nightmares were all part of this magical evening. There was never a dull moment for the audience which included music students and industry professionals.

On April 6, 2016 at 7 p.m., ASMAC and Local 47 will present the next event in the FIRST WEDNESDAYS series. Elliot Deutsch and the legendary Patrick Williams will each present a song they arranged and discuss the arrangement process including score analysis. Bring your questions and wisdom to share. Free for Local 47 and ASMAC members, $10 for non members.
