The American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC) will celebrate their 80th anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018 at the Skirball Cultural Center.

“In addition to celebrating and presenting a tribute to 80 years of wonderful music created by our award winning arrangers, composers and orchestrators, ASMAC is honored to recognize the multi Grammy Award-winning music producer, songwriter and composer Walter Afanasieff with our 2018 President’s Award,” announced Gayle Levant, President of ASMAC. Singer/songwriter/actor/voice actor PAUL WILLIAMS may be best-known to younger generations as “the Butcher” in this year’s summer blockbuster Baby Driver, or for his 2014 Grammy win for Album of the Year with Daft Punk. The American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers is proud to announce him as an honoree at the 2017 ASMAC Golden Score Awards, along with his Love Boat-theme collaborator, composer/arranger CHARLES FOX.

Jack and Perry were super! A packed house and lots of great stuff starting with a great intro from legendary composer-guitarist Don Peake.

The evening included stories about Jack’s early years in Europe and days writing music for TV through toolbox stuffings for those who were lucky enough to attend.

The evening was topped off with a surprise visit by Jack Smalley’s son, noted arranger Scott Smalley, who took some turns asking his dad questions and showing a lot of love and respect for his awesome dad. The event also included four amazing film cues of Jack’s with the scores to review proceeded by Jack’s in depth explanation of techniques used to compose them. A great time for everyone!

The American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC) presented The Art of Music Preparation on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, hosted by Local 47.

Part of a new monthly series held on the first Wednesday evening of each month featuring a variety of topics of interest to arrangers and composers, the March 2 event included veteran music copyists Liz Finch, Ross deRoche and Kim Richmond, with a demonstration by Jim Ciancaglini, owner of Valle Music.  Continue reading

American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers and the Composers & Arrangers Foundation will celebrate the musical artistry of two Local 47 stars

The American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC) and Composers & Arrangers Foundation of America (CAFA) will honor award-winning film and television composer Michael Giacchino and arranger, composer, and producer Jorge Calandrelli at the 2014 Golden Score Awards.

“Both men are world renowned in their respective fields and we are excited to have this opportunity to recognize their achievements this year,” said ASMAC President Chris Walden.

The annual awards ceremony will be held Sept. 28 in the Ahmanson Ballroom at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Continue reading
