AFM Local 47 Musicians of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Announce New Four-Year Agreement

Los Angeles, CA — [September 12, 2025] — The American Federation of Musicians Local 47 today announced that musicians of the Los Angeles Philharmonic have reached a new four-year collective bargaining agreement.

The contract includes substantial increases in base wages, substitute pay, and New Music and Chamber Music pay, as well as improved vacation benefits.

“This negotiation began nearly 11 months ago with the search for legal representation and culminated in an unprecedented four-year agreement,” the LA Phil Orchestra Negotiating Committee shared in a letter sent to the AFM Local 47 Executive Board. “None of this would have been possible without the ongoing support of Local 47.” Continue reading

LA Phil partners with L.A. County to make 10,000 free Walt Disney Concert Hall tickets available during centennial season

Breaking down economic barriers to Walt Disney Concert Hall and ensuring that its Centennial will be a celebration for all of L.A., the Los Angeles Philharmonic today announced that it will collaborate with the Los Angeles County Supervisors through its Education Department to distribute 10,000 free tickets to concerts during the anniversary season, October 2018 through June 2019. Katy Perry Joins Special Guest Lineup for Celebrate LA!

Global superstar Katy Perry will join the lineup of special guest artists for Celebrate LA!: LA Phil 100 at the Bowl, a free concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at 7 p.m.

Perry will join Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonicto perform a short set of top hits from her illustrious career. Previously announced special guests include Herbie Hancock, Kali Uchis, and YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles). Continue reading

Final Note: Mitchell Thomas Peters

8/17/1935 – 10/28/2017

Mitchell Peters, a prodigious composer, recording artist, music professor, and former principal timpanist and percussionist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, died in Encinitas Oct. 28, 2017 at the age of 82.

Peters joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic as its co-principal percussionist in 1969 and retired as its principal timpanist in 2006. He performed under such conductors as Zubin Mehta, Carlo-Maria Giulini, André Previn, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Sir Simon Rattle, John Williams, Michael Tilson Thomas and countless others. Frederick (Fred) Tinsley, double bass player in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, passed away on September 19, 2016.

Mr. Tinsley, born March 3, 1940, is survived by his wife Juanita Tinsley, children Frederick Douglas Tinsley Jr., Tania Tinsley Little, and Karen Tinsley Williams, and stepchildren Danielle Acoff and Dion Acoff. Continue reading
