As of June 17, 2019, the musicians of the Baltimore Symphony have been locked out. At the AFM 101st Convention earlier this month, the body unanimously passed an Emergency Resolution condemning the Baltimore Symphony’s lockout of its orchestra. SHERMAN OAKS, CA (June 27, 2019) — Today more than 100 professional musicians who work in film and television held a press conference and delivered stacks of petition signatures to the entertainment industry’s major producers demanding a fair contract, including residuals, for new media.
Musicians marched to the front doors of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to hand-deliver hundreds of petitions signed by musicians who work in the industry, where studio representatives denied them entrance. “They are in this building and they are willing to deny us behind closed doors, but they will not do it in the open,” said musician and organizing committee member Jason Poss. “They will receive these petitions, even though they don’t want to receive them today. This is a victory. We have shown what is going on and they cannot hide from us any longer. This is just the beginning.” Continue reading

June is Pride Month, and our AFM Local 47 musical community is proud to encompass a richly diverse and talented group of LGBTQ+ members and allies.
Our #AFM47 Pride Playlist highlights a mix of prominent artists who belong to the LGBTQ+ community, along with those who are outspoken allies. These songs feature empowered lyrics and danceable rhythms that inspire pride and equality for all! And of course, all of these anthems were recorded union.
Sleep is supposed to be a rejuvenating experience. But this isn’t so if you have sleep apnea, a condition that causes you to stop breathing over and over during sleep.
The majority of people with sleep apnea don’t even realize they have it. But if you suffer from this disorder, you may have been told that you snore loudly and gasp for air when sleeping. And you may be extremely sleepy during the day and have trouble concentrating. Continue reading
