Composer Siddhartha Khosla Dissects The Tear-Jerking Music Of NBC’s ‘This Is Us’

Siddhartha Khosla is an award-winning film and television composer, AFM Local 47 member, and singer/songwriter/producer of the critically acclaimed band Goldspot. He currently scores NBC’s hit Golden Globe and Emmy-winning drama series “This Is Us” starring Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, and Sterling K. Brown.

The “This is Us Original Score” soundtrack was released earlier this year and debuted on the iTunes Top Soundtrack Chart. Khosla composed the hit song “We Can Always Come Back To This,” which ranked #12 on iTunes Top 100 songs and #1 in the Billboard Blues Charts for four consecutive weeks. The song earned him an award nomination from the Guild of Music Supervisors for Best Song/Recording for Television. Following the show’s season two finale, the “This is Us (Music from the Series) Season 2” soundtrack was released and included the song “I Got You Babe” by Goldspot.

Khosla recently gave an interview on NPR’s World Cafe with Talia Schlanger, who writes:

Siddhartha Khosla has tiptoed into the tear ducts of millions of Americans. He’s done it with such delicate genius that even if you’ve invited the cast of This Is Us into your living room weekly since the show began, you might not have noticed Siddhartha enter along with them. But to watch the show is to feel his presence and to experience both his heart and his own sense of family.

Siddhartha composes the original score for This Is Us. In a show with epic on-screen performances and gut-wrenching drama, the music could easily have been massive. But it’s not. That’s why I was so interested to speak with Siddhartha about his musical choices. They’re simple motifs that often begin with acoustic guitar, hummed vocals and the sound of him tapping on a table.
